Each year the University of Utah College of Engineering distributes several 1-year scholarships or fellowships to the most highly qualified incoming PhD students in the college. Students do not apply for these scholarships themselves; rather, the chairs of the various engineering departments make recommendations to the college scholarship selection committee based on the quality of the student’s graduate school application.
It is helpful in determining the starting point of a budget, especially when considering many variables that could make the estimate difficult or impossible.

Effective Spring 2025, students admitted to the University of Utah may declare their major in mechanical engineering after being admitted. Students must remain in good standing with the major to take any ME EN classes 2000-level and above.
